2 escapees from La. prison being held in Tenn.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two prisoners from Louisiana who were captured in Memphis after evading authorities for 10 days are being held on an escape charge.

Authorities say 33-year-old Darian "Drake" Pierce and 36-year-old Ricky Wedgeworth carjacked and killed an Ohio businessman while they were on the run. Both made initial appearances in federal court Tuesday.

In addition to the escape charge, they face charges in at least three other states.

They were arrested a day earlier after crashing a vehicle in a busy southeast Memphis intersection.

Police say they stole a government truck in Jackson, Tenn., on Monday and fled. They were later spotted by police in Olive Branch, Miss., and were pursued into the Memphis area.
