2-Year-Old Boy Shot and Killed in Uncle's Arms

LOS ANGELES -- Police say a 2-year-old boy has died after he was shot in the head as his uncle held him in his arms outside a home in South Los Angeles.

The uncle also was shot in the head and is hospitalized in critical condition. The toddler was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Los Angeles police Officer Karen Rayner says the shooting occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Monday as the uncle held the child near the porch of a home on East 55th Street.

She says nearby residents reported hearing multiple gunshots.

Rayner says police believe the two were unintended targets of random gunfire.

She says police have no suspects.
