COLUMBIA, Mo. – An eastern Missouri truck driver charged along with his wife and three of sons with killing an Ohio drifter has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Chester "C.J." Harvey said in court Monday that he was "totally responsible" for killing 20-year-old James William Boyd McNeely. He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, armed criminal action, kidnapping and abandonment of a corpse.
Prosecutors say there wasn't a plea agreement. Harvey's attorney didn't immediately return a phone call or email message seeking comment.
McNeely's frozen corpse was found in December 2009 in the refrigerated compartment of Chester Harvey's parked tractor trailer east of Vandalia. Harvey's oldest son has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and other charges. His wife and two younger sons also have been charged with murder.
