FAIRFAX, Va. – Virginia police Wednesday issued a warrant for a man they believe is responsible for a series of bizarre attacks where young women had their buttocks slashed while shopping at busy stores or in malls.
Nine women have been cut in Fairfax County in the past seven months and police believe 40-year-old Johnny Guillen Pimentel is behind the attacks.
The victims have all been teenagers or women aged in their early 20s who were distracted before being cut on the buttocks.
Pimentel was identified by a member of the public from stills from surveillance footage captured at the stores.
"At this point, we don't know where the suspect is. He may have left the area weeks ago," Lucy Caldwell, spokeswoman for Fairfax County Police, said.
Police believe the suspect may be driving a 2003 blue Honda Civic, with Virginia license plate KLX2689.
"Detectives still aren't clear what the motive could be. Certainly we would like to talk to the individual and find out," Caldwell said.
Police said it does not appear there have been any attacks outside of Fairfax County. Pimentel is wanted for just one of the attacks, but police are working on linking him to the eight other serial slashings.
