Chris Hemsworth is an Australian actor best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role that transformed him from a television actor into one of Hollywood's biggest international stars. Born Christopher Hemsworth on 11 August 1983 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, he began his career in Australian television before moving into major Hollywood films. Hemsworth grew up in Australia alongside his brothers Luke and Liam Hemsworth, both of whom also became actors. His early career consisted largely of appearances in Australian television programmes, including Guinevere Jones, Neighbours and The Saddle Club. His first major breakthrough came when he joined the long-running Australian soap Home and Away in 2004. Hemsworth played Kim Hyde and remained with the series for several years, appearing in hundreds of episodes and becoming a familiar face to Australian television audiences.
