Ethan Suplee

Ethan Suplee is an American actor whose screen career has moved comfortably between broad comedy, hard-edged drama and television ensemble work. Born in Manhattan on May 25, 1976, he grew up around performance: his parents, Debbie and Bill Suplee, were actors who met while working in summer stock theater and later appeared on Broadway. Suplee has said that he left school at 14. His first major film role came as Willam in Kevin Smith’s Mallrats, where he appeared alongside Jason Lee. That connection continued through Smith’s Chasing Amy and Dogma, with both actors later making cameos in Clerks II. Around the same period, Suplee became a recurring presence on Boy Meets World as Frankie “The Enforcer” Stechino, a role he played from 1994 to 1998. Suplee’s film work shows the breadth of characters he has been willing to take on. He played white power skinhead Seth in American History X, football player Louie Lastik in Remember the Titans, Tuna opposite Johnny Depp in Blow, Pangle in Cold Mountain and the goth college roommate Thumper in The Butterfly Effect. These parts range from threatening to comic, from imposing figures to vulnerable outsiders, and Suplee brings a grounded physical presence that can serve either side of that divide. Television has remained an important part of his career. He made a cameo in Entourage’s fictional Queens Boulevard, reunited with My Name Is Earl co-star Jaime Pressly for Jennifer Falls, and later played D in Chance and police officer Billy “Beer Pong” Tompkins in The Ranch. His work also extends behind the camera as a film producer. In 2020, he launched the podcast American Glutton, adding another format to a career defined by an unusually varied collection of screen roles.
