Biography

About Kevin Durand

Kevin Durand has built a screen career around characters who rarely fade into the scenery. Born on January 14, 1974, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Canadian actor found his first break in Mystery, Alaska and became a familiar presence across film and television. Durand is often cast on either side of the law, and sometimes well outside it. His film roles include Booth in Walking Tall, Jeeves Tremor in Smokin’ Aces, Tucker in the 2007 remake of 3:10 to Yuma and Officer Caruso in Fruitvale Station. He has also played figures drawn from history, comics, games, and fantasy, including Little John in Robin Hood, Gabriel in Legion, Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Barry Burton in Resident Evil: Retribution. That range has made Durand especially useful in stories that need a forceful supporting presence. He appeared opposite Hugh Jackman in both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Real Steel, and worked in distinctly different territory with David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, Darren Aronofsky’s Noah and Atom Egoyan’s Devil’s Knot and The Captive. The Mortal Instruments and Citizen Gangster added further variety to a filmography comfortable moving between large-scale genre pictures and darker dramas. Television has given Durand room to stay with characters longer. His regular roles include Joshua in Dark Angel, Vasiliy Fet in The Strain, Harbard the Wanderer in Vikings and Agent Jay Swopes in the American version of Touching Evil. He also recurred as Lord Zipacna in Stargate SG-1, Martin Keamy in Lost and Dr. Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man, in Swamp Thing. In April 2024, Durand confirmed plans to make his directing and screenwriting debut with The Hockey Player, co-written with Adam MacDonald and in development since 2010. It is a fitting next step for an actor whose career has crossed crime, fantasy, science fiction, action and drama without settling into just one corner of the screen.
