About Tom Holland

Tom Holland is an English actor best known for playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Born Thomas Stanley Holland on 1 June 1996 in Kingston upon Thames, London, England, he began performing at a young age and made the unusual journey from the West End stage to becoming one of the most recognisable film stars of his generation. Holland's professional career began in theatre after he was spotted while attending dance classes. Following extensive training, he joined the West End production of Billy Elliot the Musical, initially appearing as Michael before eventually taking over the title role of Billy Elliot. His time on stage helped build the physical ability, confidence, and performance skills that later became important parts of his film career. His major breakthrough on the big screen came with The Impossible (2012), in which he starred alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. Holland played Lucas Bennett, a teenager caught with his family in the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. His emotional performance drew widespread attention and showed he could handle demanding dramatic material despite his young age. Holland's career changed dramatically when he was cast as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), bringing a younger, more energetic version of the character to the screen. He returned for his first standalone Marvel film, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), followed by appearances in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Holland continued Peter Parker's story in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the latter becoming one of the biggest theatrical releases of its era. Away from Marvel, Holland has deliberately explored different types of roles. His credits include In the Heart of the Sea (2015), The Lost City of Z (2016), The Current War (2017), Chaos Walking (2021) and Uncharted (2022), in which he played adventurer Nathan Drake alongside Mark Wahlberg. He also took on darker dramatic material in The Devil All the Time (2020) and Cherry (2021), performances that let him move considerably further away from the youthful persona associated with Peter Parker. On television, Holland starred in the psychological drama The Crowded Room (2023). His voice work includes animated films such as Spies in Disguise (2019), Dolittle (2020) and Pixar's Onward (2020). Despite becoming internationally associated with one of cinema's most famous superheroes, Holland's career has increasingly demonstrated his interest in working across action, drama, adventure and more character-driven projects. His combination of physical performance, comic timing, and dramatic ability has helped him transition from child stage performer to major Hollywood leading man. From Billy Elliot on the London stage to swinging through the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man, Tom Holland has already built a career spanning theatre, independent drama and some of the largest blockbuster films ever released.
