Synopsis
More than thirty years after graduating from TOPGUN, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell remains where he believes he belongs: pushing the limits as a test pilot rather than climbing the Navy ranks. When he is called back to train an elite group of graduates for a dangerous specialist mission, Maverick must confront his past while preparing a new generation of pilots for a challenge unlike anything they have faced before.

The Story
Maverick Returns to TOPGUN
More than three decades after becoming one of the Navy's most gifted aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is still doing what he does best: flying faster, pushing harder and avoiding the promotions that would take him out of the cockpit.
His career takes another turn when he is ordered back to TOPGUN to prepare a group of elite graduates for an exceptionally dangerous mission. Among the pilots is Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the son of Maverick's late friend and Radar Intercept Officer, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw.
Rooster's presence forces Maverick to confront a part of his past he has never truly escaped. At the same time, he must transform a group of fiercely competitive young aviators into a team capable of completing a mission where simply being among the Navy's best may not be enough.

Tom Cruise Leads a New Generation of Pilots
Tom Cruise returns as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, the role that helped establish him as one of Hollywood's biggest stars in the 1980s.
Miles Teller plays Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, whose connection to Maverick gives the story one of its most important emotional relationships. Glen Powell appears as the confident Jake "Hangman" Seresin, while Jennifer Connelly joins the story as Penny Benjamin.
Jon Hamm plays Vice Admiral Beau "Cyclone" Simpson, and Ed Harris appears as Rear Admiral Chester "Hammer" Cain.
Val Kilmer also returns as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, reconnecting Top Gun: Maverick directly with one of the most important relationships from the original film.

How Top Gun: Maverick Put Audiences Inside the Cockpit
Director Joseph Kosinski and the filmmaking team placed enormous emphasis on making the aerial sequences feel physical and immediate rather than simply creating the action entirely through visual effects.
The cast underwent extensive preparation before filming the airborne sequences, and specially developed camera systems captured footage from inside the aircraft.
That approach became a defining characteristic of Top Gun: Maverick. Instead of watching the pilots exclusively from a distance, audiences are often placed inside the cockpit with them, helping convey the speed, pressure, and physical forces involved in flying.
Combined with large-format cinematography and carefully choreographed aerial photography, the technique helped give the movie a scale that became central to its theatrical appeal.
