David Morrissey

David Morrissey is an English actor and filmmaker, born June 21, 1964, in Liverpool, England. With a career spanning film, television and theatre, Morrissey is known for powerful dramatic performances and is internationally recognised for playing The Governor in The Walking Dead. Morrissey began acting professionally at a young age, gaining early attention in the television series One Summer in 1983. He went on to establish himself as a respected British actor through numerous television dramas and feature films. His movie career includes roles in Hilary and Jackie, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Derailed, The Other Boleyn Girl and Nowhere Boy, in which he played Bobby Dykins. He also appeared as Colonel Manton in the 2011 superhero film Blitz alongside Jason Statham. Morrissey gained worldwide recognition when he joined The Walking Dead as Philip Blake, better known as The Governor. Introduced during the show's third season, the ruthless character became one of the series' most memorable villains. His extensive television work also includes acclaimed productions such as State of Play, Blackpool, The Deal, Britannia and Sherwood. Morrissey has additionally worked behind the camera as a director and producer. With decades of work across British drama, Hollywood movies and major international television productions, David Morrissey has established himself as one of Britain's most versatile and respected character actors.
